Guide: Noordermarket - AMSTERDAM

My name is Sacha Rinnooy Kan, 23 years old, and in my third year of my study marketing communication. I have the pleasure of living in the great city of Amsterdam. In the next few weeks I’ll take you on an inside scoop around my city. Prepare yourself to go to (exclusive) parties, hidden markets and little gems throughout the city of Amsterdam. So buckle up! The first stop is the “Noordermarkt”!

Every Monday at around eight o’clock in the morning the Noordermarket comes to life. Every local fahionista and treasure hunter knows about this place. You can get just about anything here: from vintage clothes to fabrics to stones, and from shoes to nice leather bags. I arrived at 9 o’clock, before the rush hour hits. I love this neighborhood, the Jordaan, and the honest –speak your mind- mentality of the people that live here. A market sales man tells me about his hula-hoop skills and before I know it I’m hulla-hooping away. After that adventure I need a coffee break and stop at a little place called Boca’s on the Westerstreet. Awesome coffee and a great atmosphere, half an hour later my quest continues. As I’m walking I noticed a huge queue in front of a lunchroom called Winkel. Now this is where the fashionistas, treasure hunters, locals and tourists meet. It just happens to be that they serve the best apple pie you will ever taste (Yes, even better than your grandma’s secret family recipe ;) !). Friday a friend of mine asked if she could take some pictures of me for a well known website… But I like to keep this mysterious so I’ll report about that next time! See you soon!
